How it works

STEP 1

Choose your plan

Individual or couples. Checkout takes a minute.

STEP 2

Answer a short questionnaire

Who inherits, who looks after your kids, who speaks for you if you can't. About 15 minutes, online, whenever you're ready.

STEP 3

Get your documents by email

Within 2 business days you receive your documents as PDFs, filled in from your answers, with signing instructions for your state.

STEP 4

Print, sign, done

Sign in front of two adult witnesses following the instructions. Keep the originals somewhere safe and tell your executor where they are.

What's in your plan

Last Will and Testament

Says who inherits what, names the person who carries out your wishes, and names a guardian for your children if they are still minors. Without one, your state decides all three.

Financial Power of Attorney

Lets someone you trust pay your bills, manage your accounts and handle your property if you are ever unable to. Without one, your family may need a court order to do the same.

Advance Healthcare Directive

Names the person who makes medical decisions for you if you can't, and records your wishes about life support so nobody has to guess.

Why now?

Getting married changes who inherits from you by default. It does not name a guardian for your kids, give your spouse authority over accounts in your name alone, or tell a hospital who decides for you. A will and two short directives do all of that. You just changed your name. This is the other 15 minutes of paperwork that protects the people behind it.

Questions people ask

Is this legally valid in my state?

Every document follows your state's signing rules, and the power of attorney and healthcare directive use your state's own statutory form. Signed exactly as the enclosed instructions say, they are designed to meet your state's requirements. NameChange.com is not a law firm and cannot guarantee any legal outcome. If your situation is complex, for example a business, a blended family, property in more than one state, or a very large estate, talk to an estate attorney.

Do I need a lawyer or a notary?

No lawyer. Your will needs two adult witnesses who are not named in it. Depending on your state, the power of attorney and healthcare directive may need a notary as well. Your signing instructions tell you exactly what your state requires.

Which states do you cover?

48 states and Washington, D.C. We do not currently offer plans for residents of Louisiana or North Carolina, because those states have special requirements.

How is the couples plan different?

You each get your own set of three documents, written to mirror each other: each of you names the other first, and your children or other chosen people next. One questionnaire covers both of you.

What if I need to change something?

Email us within 60 days and we will update your documents and send a fresh set at no charge. After that, a new plan is $99.

What is the refund policy?

If you are not happy for any reason within 60 days, email support@namechange.com for a full refund.

I have not changed my name yet. Which name goes on the will?

Use the legal name you have on the day you sign. If you sign before your name change is complete, your will can list your new name as "also known as". Your signing instructions cover this.

Fifteen minutes now. Peace of mind for years.
