Step-by-Step: Update Your Name with TWC

1. Update Your Social Security Records First

TWC verifies your name and Social Security number using SSA records. Make sure your name is updated with the SSA before contacting TWC.

2. For Unemployment Benefit Recipients

If you’re receiving unemployment:

• Log in to UI Benefits Services: https://www.twc.texas.gov/jobseekers/unemployment-benefits-services

   

• Call the TWC Tele-Center at 1-800-939-6631 and request a Name Change Update

   

• Be prepared to mail or fax a copy of your marriage certificate, court order, or divorce decree

   

3. For Current or Past Employees (Wage Records)

If you’re not receiving benefits but want to ensure wage records reflect your new name:

• Contact your employer to update your name in their payroll system

   

• Your employer will report the change to TWC when they submit quarterly wage reports
