Before you can change your name on your vehicle documents, your Florida driverโs license must be updated to reflect your new name. The DMV will use this ID to verify your identity.

To update your title and registration, youโll need:
Updated Florida driverโs license (with new name)
Certified marriage certificate or court order
Current vehicle title
Completed Form HSMV 82040 (Application for Certificate of Title)

Vehicle title and registration updates in Florida are processed through your county tax collectorโs office, not the regular DMV.

Once processed, youโll receive an updated vehicle title in your new name. Your registration will also reflect the change.
