Before visiting the DMV, make sure your name is updated with the Social Security Administration. The DMV uses this to verify your identity when processing your documents.
You must update your name on your Texas driverโs license first, as the DMV will match your new name with your ID.

Name changes for vehicle titles must be handled in person at your local county tax office. You can find your office here:

Expect to pay a $33 title correction fee, along with any local or processing fees.
There is no separate fee for registration name updatesโtheyโre updated automatically when you change your title.
